"The past isn't dead;
it isn't even past."

      – William Faulkner

For more than a decade Joel has explored the Creole world of South Louisiana through the lens of his large format 5x7 view camera. He also uses a hand held 35mm camera to make preliminary studies and explore more contemporary subject matter. Both sets of pictures can be seen here.

Le Monde Créole premiered in June 2007 with a major exhibition at the Fresno Art Museumand then traveled to the Centro Fotografico Manuel Alvarez Bravo for an exhibition in January 2008. Additional venues are currently being booked for the touring exhibition. The feature length documentary film Bayou Blues: A Photographer's Journey in South Louisiana is currently in postproduction.
